The Kung Fu suit, also known as the Wushu suit, is derived from the traditional Chinese suit made of cotton, satin or silk.. These Kung Fu or Wushu uniform come in different colours and designs.

The suit includes the top or jacket with toggle fastening. The trousers would have a draw-string around the waist, which could also be elasticated. The trousers' ankles could either be striaght, with draw-strings or elasticated. Another traditional type is one where the waist is wide and has to be folded properly to be secured. Then a sash is tied around it a couple of times to secure the trousers.

Unlike the Japanese gi, the 'wushu uniform' evolves from the traditional Chinese suits. They can be seen in traditional Chinese films, not necessary wushu or kung fu films. With the popularity of Chinese martial arts in the sixties, martial arts uniform became more of a norm. Wushu or Kung Fu schools started acquiring their own identity by having their own uniform or logo. Some do away with a jacket by simply using a T-shirt with a logo and a kung fu trousers.
